Why You Should Try S&M

What Is S&M?

The definition of S&M is “Sadism and Masochism“. Sadism is the sexual pleasure or gratification in the infliction of pain and suffering upon another person. The counterpart of sadism is masochism, the sexual pleasure or gratification of having pain or suffering inflicted upon the self, often consisting of sexual fantasies or urges for being beaten, humiliated, bound, tortured, or otherwise made to suffer, either as an enhancement to or a substitute for sexual pleasure.

Sadists enjoy inflicting pain whether or not it is sexual in nature. Masochists enjoy receiving pain, which, again, may or may not be sexual. Dominance and submission is a way of looking at the sadistic-masochistic distinction, a power dynamic rather than a set of acts. Not all masochists are submissive, and not all submissives enjoy pain. Not all sadists are dominant, and not all who enjoy dominating others are sadists.  There is frequently a strong emotional aspect to the sexual desires, taking the form of a need for domination or submission as opposed to a simple desire for pain. The words sadistic and masochistic are now commonly used to describe personality traits in an emotional, rather than sexual sense.

S&M Psychological Benefits

A new study has revealed that S&M or bondage can bring about the ‘flow’ in your brain. An altered state of mind where you are totally absorbed in the task and the brain is at its most productive and creative.

Compared to the majority, S&M practitioners had lower levels of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychological sadism, psychological masochism, borderline pathology, and paranoia. They showed equal levels of obsessive-compulsive disorder and higher levels of dissociation and narcissism.

Results also showed that in comparison to non-practitioners, S&M practitioners exhibited higher levels of extraversion, conscientiousness, openness to experience, and subjective well-being. Practitioners also showed lower levels of neuroticism and rejection sensitivity. The one negative trait that emerged? S&M practitioners showed lower levels of agreeableness than non-practitioners.

It Could Kick-Start Your Relationship

Couples who feel their relationship has gone a bit stale between the sheets to try S&M. The more couples move away from predictable, routine sex that doesn’t challenge them the better. Think back to the best sex in your life. Is it the sex you had in bed with your partner at 11 pm on a Saturday night? I doubt it. A mild form of S&M could be just what you need to kick yourselves back into the type of sex you had at the start.

Try Everything Until Something Interests You

No one ever discovered a fetish by having sex in the missionary position all their life. And if you don’t enjoy it, you never have to do it again. Easy. You need to try different categories of S&M activities. For example, categories for physical restriction includes bondage, handcuffs, chains. Then try administration of pain like spanking, caning, putting clothespins on the skin. You may also try humiliation by using gags and verbal humiliation. There are plenty of S&M activities, it all depends on your sexual stimulation.

Differences Outside The Bedroom

If you’re feeling that the power in your relationship has shifted, kinky sex might help to readdress the balance in all aspects. It’s a form of role-playing that helps you escape into fantasy land and of course, it’s all about dominance. Switching dominant roles like swapping who is normally the one who makes the moves and who is more submissive. Extremely effective way to shake things up.

Fuels Desire

Of course, your relationship might be full of love, but sometimes you want more than that to keep it exciting. Love and desire are fuel by very different things. Love thrives on comfort, routine, and safety and desire thrive on danger, tension and the forbidden.
